how to improve your business instagram account 2025

DMs, Vanity Metrics, Original Content and More. Let’s break that down.

Instagram chief Adam Mosseri posted the priorities at IG for 2025 including their two key areas of focus:

  • Creativity
  • Connection

What does this mean for business owners?

  1. Instagram will be focusing on providing built-in tools and embracing AI as a tool to help users create content within the app.
  2. They will be prioritizing and highlighting original content. Don’t be a content aggregator by cycling other account’s content or content you don’t own. As of right now, AI content counts as original content.
  3. Pay attention to your DMs. This is more important than ever as private conversations are continuing to dominate when it comes to conversions from social media. Ask your followers to DM in exchange for value and then continue a conversation with them. Mosseri noted that Instagram will be focusing on messaging which he said is the primary way that people share on Instagram now.
  4. Take a look at Instagram Notes and use this function if you aren’t currently.
  5. Do not focus on vanity metrics. This is not something new, but needs to be said again. Likes and comments on posts do not translate into a successful instagram account. Aim for Shares and otherwise review your overall goals. If you’re spending x amount of time creating social media content, what is the return on this investment? Are you seeing sales? Email sign-ups? Other conversions? Always keep your goals in mind and don’t get lost in creating content for the sake of “Likes” and “Views.”
  6. Another big change for 2025 is the layout of the Instagram profile where the grid is no longer squares and now displays each post in a portrait format. This change caused a lot of concern from people who were worried about how their profile would look after this change. The set-up of the profile is out of your control, so focus on quality, unique content and focus less on how your feed looks.
